Hello, Lovlies!  What are your plans for the weekend?  I’m heading up for a weekend in Birmingham with the boy and his family.  I always love visiting his parents – his mom is a wonderful cook.  We will hopefully get up to some festivities this weekend, leading up to the holidays, and I’m dying to go ice skating!

Enjoy the links below 🙂  Have a great weekend!

Unique and beautiful – china dinnerware sinks into the black table.  This display at London’s Andaz Liverpool Street is meant to evoke a sense of the traditional advent calendar.  Each dish will contain a different treat each day, and prompts customers to explore and try luxurious treats in a fun and different way.  So if you’re in London, head over to the east side to try some of this delightful display – and enjoy some of the events that will be happening each day also!  I know I will.  Anywhere there is chocolate I will go! 🙂

Who knew that shopping for men could be so difficult?  Not only shopping for men… but shopping for men with men.  Add a designer girlfriend to the list and you’ve got instant chaos!  Or, at least it was when I was at the shops with my man last weekend – searching for his Christmas gift.

Not only do they want what they want, but men can be so detailed in their personal gifts.  It took me ten minutes to pick out his Ray-Ban sunglasses for his birthday (albeit I worked for Sunglass Hut at the time), yet it takes him ages to find his perfect bag.

By the way – it was agreed that he was getting a M-urse.  A man-purse, portfolio, briefcase, call it what you’d like.  (To put this in context – he is a professional secondary school teacher of history.  He is currently carrying around a 10 year old rucksack.  All designers may gasp in horror now.)  I got him to see the light.

So, after initial debates about the colour of the bag (he wanted brown, I said black) to material debates (he wanted ‘youthful looking’, I wanted classic professional and leather) we finally decided on a smooth and sleek Jeff Banks bag.  It was perfect for him! (And for my designer self!)

See that photo above?  It’s the exact one.  Never mind the sale currently on at Debenhams for this bag, we hit the jackpot.  It was professional yet easy, leather and black yet pliable.  It works and I expect him to use it for at least a few years!

Left Brain 2, Right Brain 2!

How about ice skating?  My favourite holiday activity!  It’s fun and utterly romantic!  I have been trying to convince my boyfriend to come with me… we are suppose to be going this weekend!  I figure if I can get him to go see Arthur Christmas I’m sure I can get him to do some ice skating!

Would you ever travel to beautiful ice skating rinks?  For those not a fan of skiing holidays – maybe an ice skating holiday would be a great alternative!  Four Seasons Magazine lists the World’s Best Ice Skating Destinations.  I personally would love to go to Austria (as pictured above).  How idyllic!

This weekend is a big day for me – I am moving out of my current flat and into a temporary room until the holidays.  On one hand, I am super excited.  This means new challenges, new experiences, new people.  But on the other hand – what a pain!

So, this weekend I’ll look like this lady.  Except in much much warmer clothes!  (Joys of winter in London!)

Winter is coming up quickly – and what better holiday than to go on a skiing trip?  However, if you’re like me and have never skied or snowboarded in your life – a trip like that might not be as fun.  I mean, honestly, who wants to spend all day on the bunny hill when your friends are skiing the black diamond?

Here’s another idea put forth by VTravelledThe Non-Skiers Guide to Having Fun on a Ski Trip.  Brilliant!

How about dog sledding instead?  Calling all dog lovers on this one – wouldn’t you love to take one home?  Adorable!  Or there is always the spa, hot springs, and pool to socialize around wth a few cocktails – perhaps meet some new friends?  Or snowmobiling – so much better on something motorized to blaze through those trails – no?

Picture yourself sitting on the sofa on a weeknight: bored, finishing dinner and staring longingly at drab television shows that you wish were something more.  Then – at random – you switch the channel to the BBC and are immediately intrigued by the cinematography and unique photos of the Arctic and its beautiful creatures.

Welcome to the Frozen Planet.

David Attenborough – the legend of nature television narration – leads us through the unique world of bitter cold and survival with the inhabitants of this vast ice land.  He is amazing at his narration, and he even went with the crews to both poles while filming this series.

Fun fact: in order to get these unique shots – like the one above – the camera crew would have to be set on the ice by helicopter.  The ice sometimes was no more than a metre in diameter!

In England?  Tune in – Wednesdays at 9pm.
