I absolutely love this time of year.  My family and I always had our traditions in these final weeks leading up to the week of holiday fun – starting right after Thanksgiving.  First, there was always Black Friday – manic shopping – then there was finding the tree, dressing the tree, and baking cookies.  We celebrated with the family on Christmas Eve, then again Christmas Day, ending with a big dinner at night of ham and all the good food you could ever imagine.

This year, I’m spending Christmas in England with my boyfriend’s family.  It is a little sad, since I won’t be able to do my family traditions, but I am excited to participate in his!  English Christmas = mince pies, Christmas pudding, Christmas Crackers… and all sorts of new experiences.  I’m glad they are allowing me to share in it all!

To get us in the spirit a little earlier than normal for England, we went and watched Arthur Christmas – a cute animated flick about Santa Claus.  I loved it!  I’m sure Ben found it utterly boring.  Now I just want to grab some hot chocolate and go ice skating.

What gets you in the holiday spirit? x

Moving House!

This weekend is a big day for me – I am moving out of my current flat and into a temporary room until the holidays.  On one hand, I am super excited.  This means new challenges, new experiences, new people.  But on the other hand – what a pain!

So, this weekend I’ll look like this lady.  Except in much much warmer clothes!  (Joys of winter in London!)

How beautiful is this??  Jim Denevan created the world’s largest work of art – apparently about 9 miles total.  The Anthropologist documented the entire story.  Read it here.

I just love this – even the breaks between the blue ice and the snow look intentional.  Absolutely stunning!

Winter is coming up quickly – and what better holiday than to go on a skiing trip?  However, if you’re like me and have never skied or snowboarded in your life – a trip like that might not be as fun.  I mean, honestly, who wants to spend all day on the bunny hill when your friends are skiing the black diamond?

Here’s another idea put forth by VTravelledThe Non-Skiers Guide to Having Fun on a Ski Trip.  Brilliant!

How about dog sledding instead?  Calling all dog lovers on this one – wouldn’t you love to take one home?  Adorable!  Or there is always the spa, hot springs, and pool to socialize around wth a few cocktails – perhaps meet some new friends?  Or snowmobiling – so much better on something motorized to blaze through those trails – no?

What to Watch?

Picture yourself sitting on the sofa on a weeknight: bored, finishing dinner and staring longingly at drab television shows that you wish were something more.  Then – at random – you switch the channel to the BBC and are immediately intrigued by the cinematography and unique photos of the Arctic and its beautiful creatures.

Welcome to the Frozen Planet.

David Attenborough – the legend of nature television narration – leads us through the unique world of bitter cold and survival with the inhabitants of this vast ice land.  He is amazing at his narration, and he even went with the crews to both poles while filming this series.

Fun fact: in order to get these unique shots – like the one above – the camera crew would have to be set on the ice by helicopter.  The ice sometimes was no more than a metre in diameter!

In England?  Tune in – Wednesdays at 9pm.

Let me introduce you to something new, fun, and exciting: Soap & Glory.

Have you seen it in Boots?  If not you need to look harder – this fun (pink!) and vintage styled hair and skincare brand is all the rage – ask anyone.  Recently featured in Vogue, the brand is funky and unique, and stands out in a sea of skincare ranges.  Even the website speaks for itself!

Plus – the products smell good!  Smell good, look good, and are a fun way to spice up the bathroom cabinet shelf.  (Push the man’s crap to the side – design coming through!)

I absolutely love it.  The range is fun, not outrageously overpriced and definitely worth buying into.  I recently purchased a set of fun items for my boyfriend’s sister for the holidays.  She’s going to love it!!

So today I went to my first hip hop class today – wayyy to advanced for me though!  Crazy – can people be considered beginners when they are already in their 20s?  I feel like I’ve missed out on something from my younger self…  Positive news – I found another class.

Anyways – what brought me back home was my inspiration.  I hope you love these links as much as I do!

– Amazing new retail store!!

– Healthy oatmeal

– Great ideas for teacher gifts

– A drink for winter
